How Do I Allow Students to Attach Files to a Discussion?

You can allow students to attach files to a Discussion by changing the course settings. Settings are available in the Discussions Page or the Course Settings Page.

 

Discussions Page Settings

In Course Navigation, click the Discussions link.

 

Open Settings Icon

Click the Settings icon to open Discussion settings.

 

Edit Discussion Settings

Make sure you mark the Attach files to discussions checkbox. 

Note: Unchecking this option will restrict students from attaching files within Discussions. This permission affects posts in new discussion topics, discussion replies, and discussions within course groups.

 

Course Settings

You can also change the Discussions permissions in the Course Settings.

In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.

 

View Course Details

View Course Details.

 

Select More Options

Click the More Options link.

 

Allow Students to Attach Files

Mark the Let Students attach files to discussions checkbox [1]. Once you are done making changes, click the Update Course Details button [2].

 

Open Student View

Under Settings, click the Student View button.

 

Open Discussions

In Course Navigation, click the Discussions link.

 

Open Discussion: Student View

Click a discussion title.

 

Verify Students Can Attach Files

Once you have reached the discussion post using the instructions above, the Rich Content Editor will appear. Verify that students can attach files. If they cannot attach files, the highlighted area will not appear.
